I've been thinking about this for a while since I first stumbled upon The Grandma Museum where Sarah Koik is photographing and writing about various gifts she has got from her Grandma. On Sarah's website other people can submit posts about gifts from their Grandmother(s), but I won't be doing that.

At about the same time I found Sarah's website, I was reading some of Peter Walsh's books and in particular noting how he recommended dealing with items which had belonged to other people - in my case it was things of my mother's which I am still hanging on to, eight years after her death. Add to that the accumulation of family memorabilia which have been handed to me (as the eldest sibling and family historian) and you can see my problem.
One of Peter Walsh's suggestions was to honour the memento in some way buy using or displaying it. Well I can't display or use everything I have, so I thought about taking photographs and writing in detail about the items BEFORE I decide what to do with them. I have craft, art, prayer books, some items of jewellery and all sorts of other memorabilia to deal with and I do not want what little information I have to be lost - so I thought that putting it up on the internet might be a good idea. Then if the physical item is lost or destroyed, there is an electronic record. (Mind you, who's to say how long technology will last).
I will probably drag my sister into the project, especially as she has a better camera than me and she can help decide what to do with everything - that is, which things to give away and which to keep and how best to archive them. This is a long term project and may not start immediately, but we'll carve out some time and eventually get it done.
